Week 4: Let the nesting begin

It’s week 4 of Org Junkie’s 52 Weeks of Organizing. I’m going to try to condense as much as possible because I did a lot this week! I guess many people who joined this challenge have found it hard to stop once they’ve started and I’m right there with you.

I’m now 30 weeks along in my pregnancy and two big things happened this week. First the “nesting” impulse kicked into HIGH gear and then the baby moved into head down position. Getting kicked in the ribs is not as much fun as watching my belly bump out, oh well! Besides all the sweeping, scrubbing etc, here’s what I organized this week…

I conquered a pile!

(As Laura suggested last week). This basket holds all my computer software DVDs and the few music CDs I find in secondhand stores. I condensed most of the discs into binders we already had. The inserts I wanted to save are held together with a binder clip. So much better now!

Green tip! Rather than throwing away the empty cases, I am donating them to the library where they will get a lot of use replacing some broken cases that have been checked out many times.

I moved & organized a bookcase

Last week, I moved a small bookcase from our second bedroom to the kitchen area for storing jars. This week, I moved a much larger bookcase into the newly empty spot and gave my husband a much needed comic library. All his comic books and graphic novels were sorted by title and had dividers but they were all boxed up and hard to access in a closet.

Now he has a huge bookshelf next to a comfortable chair. When he comes home from a long day of work he can quickly grab a comic, kick his feet up and relax. He has already commented several times about how easy it is to find what he wants and how great he feels!

The rest of it…

I don’t want to bore you, so here’s a quick run down of everything else I organized this week. I’m loving this! I used to be organized but let it slip in the last few years. I felt overwhelmed after downsizing to a 600 square foot apartment with my husband (I thought it was easier when I lived with a roommate because I only had my own stuff to worry about!). I finally feel like we’re well on the way to getting the organized space we’ve been wanting for the last few years. Yay!!

  • Sorted all the hand-me-down baby clothes by size
  • Went through every box of stuff for sale/donation and made a master list (taped the list for each box to the front of it)
  • Went through boxes of pre-pregnancy clothes and made lists of what’s inside each so I can find them when they fit again!
  • Gathered all my husband’s things that he has been on the fence about donating (he wanted to see it all in one place)
