Today in the garden

One of my wishes on my short list when we were house hunting last fall was some outdoor space. When we moved in December I thought I would spend a year just observing the property and not doing much more “gardening” than mowing the lawn. Then on Mother’s Day we decided to get a few plants from a local farm. We got tomatoes, brussels sprouts, strawberries and mint. Seemingly overnight I found a new passion that I would never have expected from my limited past experience with growing herbs in pots.

Just as I was feeling like the gardening season was coming to an end, today I had a moment that amazed me.

For the first time in my life, I saw a hummingbird and it was in my own backyard! I had already said that anise hyssop was my favorite plant and this just made it even better for me.
